Current Mentor and Social Chair

Meet our rockstar volunteer, Raymond Fong! His journey with Minds Matter Bay Area began as a mentee, and our community is proud to have him as a Class of 2016 MMBay graduate! Raymond has been an amazing advocate for our mission to transform the lives of high-achieving, low-income students.

During the school year, Raymond dedicates his time working closely with other volunteers to nurture strong and trusting relationships with our students. For the Class of 2023, 100% of our mentees were accepted into 4-year colleges, and 73% of our students were admitted to a top US college.

What are your relationships like with the students you work with?
We have a very easy going relationship and sometimes I feel like an older brother! They'll joke that I'm old (I'm not!) and ask things like what it was like living during the industrial revolution...

Maybe I shouldn't have told them I've used floppy discs before.

What is your favorite part of Minds Matter Bay Area?
Helping my mentees flourish and being a part of their journey! In just a few months, we've been able to work on a lot of soft skills, especially public speaking. I was extremely impressed and proud seeing their progress when we had a mock debate recently!
