Thomas Zheng

Associate Board Leadership Team

“MMBay has shown me the impact passionate volunteers can create in the community”

Meet our amazing volunteer, Thomas Zheng! He was previously an instructor with the Chicago chapter, but is now serving his second year on Minds Matter Bay Area's Associate Board as one of the leads for the Recruitment and Selection sub-committee. Thomas has been a phenomenal advocate in furthering our mission of helping high-achieving, low-income students pursue the colleges of their dreams. His commitment and passion in driving the sustainability and growth of our organization has delivered significant impact.

How have you been involved with Minds Matter / what roles?
I was previously an instructor in Chicago, but since moving to San Francisco, I've been serving on the Associate Board within the Recruitment and Selection subcommittee.

What is your favorite part of Minds Matter?
I really appreciate the autonomy that is given to volunteers on the Associate Board. Whether that is in developing new partnerships, finding top-notch members, and expanding the organization, Minds Matter Bay Area allows you to take ownership and create meaningful impact. I am proud to serve alongside so many motivated and passionate volunteers.

What is your favorite Minds Matter memory?

Going to grab drinks with all the volunteers after our annual School Night fundraiser was awesome! It felt very rewarding to see everything come together for the event and it was great to celebrate with everyone afterwards.

How have you benefited personally from your experience at Minds Matter?
Through the organization I've been able to connect with old friends and also meet a ton of amazing new people, many of whom I hangout with outside of Minds Matter.

What inspired you to become an AB member?
I became an AB member in order to help support the growth of the organization and ensure the sustainability of the services and resources Minds Matter provides to the community.

What is a fun fact about you?
English is technically my third language.
