Meet Lucy

Lucy Tibbetts

Current Sophomore Instruction Co-Lead & Math Instructor

Meet our rockstar volunteer, Lucy Tibbetts! As a math instructor, she dedicates two hours every week to teaching students a skills-based curriculum that produces measurable improvement on SAT & ACT results. With an approximate 1:2 instructor-student ratio, these test prep sessions resulted in the average MMBay student in the Class of 2023 improving over 257 points on a 1600 SAT scale. Lucy and other MMBay volunteers work tirelessly to provide world-class support to underprivileged students.

What is your favorite part of Minds Matter Bay Area?
The people! Our students are funny, smart, and very inspiring to me. It is a privilege and a joy to get to know them - to see them open up, develop friendships with each other, and grow as individuals. It is also very special to be part of a volunteer community filled with people who think and care a lot about education, our city, and our students.

How have you benefited personally from your experience at Minds Matter Bay Area?
In so many ways! Minds Matter Bay Area has made me a more confident leader - I have learned (and been encouraged along the way) to trust my instincts more and to pursue the things I want to see happen in and for our community. I have gained new friendships and a much deeper sense of connection to the city in which I live.
