Meet Sara

Sara Buck

Current Junior Mentor

Meet another wonderful volunteer with Minds Matter Bay Area (MMBay) - Sara Buck! Sara is a junior mentor, supporting the class of 2025 on their journey through high school and to college. Our mentors are a critical part of the organization, working with our mentees throughout the three years they are a part of the program. Beginning their sophomore year of high school, each of our incredible students is matched with two mentors who work with them to discover, plan, and ready themselves for college.

How long you been involved with MMBay, and in what roles?

I joined MMBay as a mentor in 2022 and I currently support the junior class.

What is your favorite Minds Matter Bay Area memory?

My mentees are so different from each other in the best way possible. Their interests range from art to gaming to sports, which keeps our Saturday sessions spicy and diverse. I love asking my mentee how her flag football team is doing and we’ll often watch her highlights during breaks. Their interests become my interests.

How did you hear about MMBay?

I had a friend volunteering with Minds Matter Philadelphia, another one with the Boston chapter, and another one with the LA chapter. That was my sign to check it out. MMBay’s mission resonated with me and I've loved everyone I've met so far. I’m consistently impressed by how driven, curious, and socially aware the mentees are and I know our mentors and MMBay are doing everything they can to help students succeed.

What is a fun fact about you?

I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawai’i, and played softball in college!
