Venkat Balan

Senior Class Mentor & member of our Impact Team

In honor of National Volunteer Week, we would like to introduce you to one of our amazing volunteers, Venkat Balan! For the past three years, Venkat has been a phenomenal advocate in furthering Minds Matter's mission of helping high-achieving, low-income students pursue the colleges of their dreams. As a mentor, he spends his Saturdays nurturing a strong and trusting relationship with students beginning from their sophomore year of high school. His mentees are now seniors in high schools and will soon be embarking on their college journey!

Furthermore, Venkat serves on the Impact Team where he helps with data analysis and attendance-related metrics gathering.

What is your favorite part of Minds Matter?

It is watching the mentees grow and become more confident over the years and seeing them excel with all the help from Minds Matter.

How have you benefited personally from your experience at Minds Matter?

It helped me reshape my communication skills! Working with students has taught me how to effectively communicate complex topics that need nuance and helped me see the issues from a student’s perspective.
