Volunteer leadership programs are a good chance to develop your skills and gain vital experience. Here are the top ten opportunities to consider.

At Minds Matter Bay Area (MMBay), our mission is to solve college “undermatching”: the underrepresentation of high-achieving, low-income students at selective colleges across the country.

Founded in 2010, we guide driven yet underserved students to graduate from the nation’s most selective colleges and have graduated over 200 alumni.

Our volunteer leadership programs are vital to the success of MMBay’s mission and we rely on the support of our community of professionals who dedicate themselves to making a profound difference in our students’ lives.

By joining one of our volunteer leadership programs, you will be a part of a community that supports low-income students in accessing well-resourced networks and competitive careers, breaking the cycle of poverty, and achieving their dreams.

Our weekly program is provided free of charge to all students and is delivered by a powerful network of volunteers who mentor, teach, and support our students throughout their journey.

We want to create an environment where our volunteers feel appreciated, supported, and can enjoy their experience with us while creating meaningful change. Join our community, have fun, and make unforgettable memories with us.

Don’t just take our word for it - here’s what some of our current and past volunteers have to say about MMBay’s volunteer leadership programs:

“To me, Minds Matter means giving back to the community and paying forward mentorship to someone who deserves to achieve their dreams regardless of their circumstances. Everyone should have the opportunity to go to college and discover who they are along the way. So many people helped me in my journey to go to college and I want to do the same for students who may not have the resources or network and are looking for direction. If I can support at least one person's life within Minds Matter through my life experiences and through helping them get through high school, then I know I have made a difference.” - Mitchell, Former Volunteer Recruiting Lead and Mentor.

“My favorite part of Minds Matter is knowing that we are making a difference in the San Francisco community—it's so easy to get caught up in all the things going on in the world and feel like there is no way to make a tangible difference. Minds Matter is my reminder that there are so many things we can do to help if we just take the time to make a commitment to our community.” - Rohini, Senior Class Mentoring Lead and former Mentor.

“I've made incredible friendships with my past mentor and fellow volunteers. While I am building the relationship with my current two mentees now, my previous mentee and I continue to stay connected in her freshman year at Claremont McKenna. It has also been rewarding getting to know others in the community with values that align with my own. ” - Priscilla, Mentor & Events Team Community Member.
