California College of the Arts

program overview

This summer, approximately 250 high school students -- makers, designers, DIYers, and original thinkers from all over the Bay Area and beyond will convene on CCA's Oakland campus and engage in an authentic art-college experience, including residing in CCA housing.

You will immerse yourself in a college-level curriculum studying art, architecture, design, and creative writing as you discover what makes the San Francisco Bay Area so ideal.

By completion, you will have strengthened your portfolio, deepened your craft, expanded your knowledge, and grown as an individual -- all while becoming an integral part of a creative community that embraces risk-taking in the pursuit of purposeful work.

Pre-College is an all-day program. Classes are held Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on CCA's Oakland campus (a lunch break is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m.). Required studio hours are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m. Optional evening activities such as life drawing sessions, artist talks, and hands-on art and design workshops enhance the overall program experience.

Note: There is NO housing provided. You must commute to campus daily.
