9.8.18 - Session #1 | Catching up & Setting Goals


Location: Urban School

Objectives

  • Mentees will reconnect with mentors and introduce themselves to other trios and their pod leaders.

  • Mentees will learn about junior year expectations and class structure.

  • Mentees will reflect upon summer programs and prepare to share their experiences


Agenda

  • (12:30 - 12:45) | Social Catch-Up & Attendance

    • How are things going? Mentee-mentor check in

    • Intros within pods

    • Take attendance

  • (12:45 - 1:00) | Icebreaker - Yarn Toss

    • Ball of yarn provided by class leads

    • Everyone sits in a circle, one person starting with the ball of yarn

      • Say an interesting fact  about yourself (pod leaders can provide a prompt), your name, and toss to someone else in the circle

      • Once everyone goes, everyone should be connected via a yarn web yay!

  • (1:00 - 1:20) | Summer Program Reflections

    • Sit/Stand activity - pod leaders can read from prompts, mentees stand if the statement applies to them

    • Follow - up discussion about common themes

  • (1:20 - 1:30) Junior Year Overview

    • See powerpoint in folder

  • (1:30 - 2:00) Goal setting for the year

    • Pod Leaders review the concept of S.M.A.R.T goals with mentors and mentees

      • Specific (simple, sensible, significant).

      • Measurable (meaningful, motivational).

      • Achievable (agreed, attainable).

      • Relevant (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based).

      • Time bound (time-based, time limited, time/cost limited, timely, time-sensitive).

    • Find the goal setting worksheet in drive folder, mentors can review goals with mentees

    • Share some goals with your pod, how can we help you achieve these?

  • (2:00 - 2:30) Summer Program Showcase work time

    • ****Mentees to fill out survey sent in weekly reminder email if they haven’t already

    • We will be doing a summer program showcase next week (using slides).
